August 14, 1939 – April 5, 2018
William A. Silvey, "BMW Bill", of Smyrna, DE, passed away on Thursday April 5, 2018 at Kent General Hospital, Dover, DE. He was 79.
He was born in Darby, PA on August 14, 1939 to the late Willard Clarence and Josephine Silvey.
He lived in Philadelphia until his retirement in 2000 when he moved to Smyrna.
Bill loved riding motorcycles and playing pool. He was a member of the Smyrna-Clayton Moose Lodge and had a great deal of love and affection for stray dogs and cats. He proudly served in the US Navy from 1956-1960 and served on the USS Shasta.
He will be remembered for his favorite saying: "IT IS WHAT IT IS!!"
He was predeceased by a daughter, Kathy Dillon; a brother, James Silvey; and his cats Muffin and Fanbelt. Fanbelt's ashes will be buried with Bill.
He is survived by a son, William C. Silvey, of Smyrna; a granddaughter, Megan Comero, of Brookhaven, PA; his beloved cats, Smokey (of Blackbird Forest fame) and Gray; and his good friends, Patty & Pete Wootten.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Compassionate Care Hospice.
Services will be held 12 PM Thursday April 19 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call at 11AM.
Burial will be 2PM Thursday at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear, DE.
