William Joseph "Bill" Griffin, 73, of Wilmington, DE, and formerly of Smyrna and Clayton, passed away on Thursday Oct. 25, 2018 in Christiana, DE.
He was born in Pennsylvania on Dec. 5, 1944, the son of the late Lawrence and Caroline Griffin.
He was a graduate of Conrad High School and loved working his jobs in retail and grocery for many years. He retired from ShopRite in Stanton, DE.
Bill was a veteran of the Delaware Army National Guard and loved everything Elvis. He was an Elvis impersonator and had a huge Elvis collection. He was also an extraordinary artist - he loved to draw. On any given morning, Bill would be doing his crossword puzzles and drinking his coffee at the kitchen table.
His family likes to joke that as he got ready for the day, he would use so much hairspray to keep his Elvis hair up all day, that he was to blame for the hole in the ozone! Bill's favorite saying was "You better believe it!"
He was preceded in death by his wife Darlene Griffin (passed in 2017); a son, William J. Griffin II "BJ"; and his siblings, Bobby Griffin and Gladys Crozier .
He is survived by a daughter Michele Moore; sisters Millie Whaley, Linda Mecke, and Mary Emory; a brother, Larry Griffin; grandchildren Jeffrey Griffin, Richard Moore, and Brittany Moore; and his great-grandchildren Finley Griffin and McKenzie Moore.
Services will be held 12 PM Sunday November 4 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call at 11 AM. He will be laid to rest in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.
