A. Ruth "Mom" Smith, 71, died May 4, 2013, succumbing after months of breathing complications from Post Polio Syndrome. Ruth, born in Riverside, CA on September 13, 1941, moved to Smyrna in the early 60's. Loved by all, she was active in her community as a member of the Rebekah Lodge, the First Presbyterian Church of Smyrna, and a Smyrna High School Band Booster in the 70's and 80's. With over a decade at Smyrna High as a substitute teacher and later assistant librarian, she became "Mom Smith" to hundreds of beloved students whose lives were touched by her heartfelt love and caring for them. She is predeceased by her son, Edward "Eddy" Smith, and survived by her husband, Edgar G. Smith, daughters Terri Smith Rhodes and husband Scott, of Elburn IL, and Megan Smith Mazer and husband David, of Doylestown PA; grandsons, Devin Foschi-Smith, Darren Mazer, and Tyler Rhodes; half-sister Kathy Davis, TN, and half-brother Steve Dunkerken, CA and stepmom, Arlene Dunkerken, CA. Services will be held 12:00 PM Saturday, May 11th at The First Presbyterian Church of Smyrna, 118 W Commerce Street, where friends may call at 11:00 AM. All are welcome to stay at the church after the funeral for a luncheon. Burial will be private.
