Ronald J.
Ostant
November 5, 1938 – April 6, 2018
Ronald J. Ostant, of Smyrna, passed away on Friday April 6, 2018 at Bayhealth Medical Center, Dover, DE. He was 79.
He was born in Boothwyn, PA on November 5, 1938, the son of the late Nancy (Ely) and Joseph Ostant. He played football in high school for the Chichester Eagles and graduated from there in 1958 as well as RETS Electronics School.
He served as a member of the Army National Guard, 111th Infantry.
He retired from General Electric after 35 years. After retiring, he worked part time for Longwood Gardens and Embassy kitchens. In his earlier years he was a delivery driver for Marcus Hook Florist. Even over the years when GE was on strike he would always find work, no matter the job to provide for his family.
A long-time resident of Boothwyn, Pa, he moved to Claymont, De for a short time after he married, and then moved to Marshall Terrace in Linwood, Pa. In the early 70's he moved back to his childhood home on Locust St. in Boothwyn until he retired and settled in Smyrna, DE.
He loved to fish & crab, enjoyed cutting his grass and working his garden. He spent years coaching little league and football. He loved the Phillies, Eagles, and he followed the Chi teams or any local teams where he could get a hot dog. He enjoyed watching reruns of his programs and all the old westerns on TV. He was a loving husband, great father and was a very proud pop pop & great-grand pop.
He always had a funny story to tell - a funny diddy or a corny joke.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel Ostant; and a sister, Janice Ostant.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Carole (Jackalous) Ostant of Smyrna, DE; his children, Lisa (Russell) Wallis Poore, Janice (Michael) Garvey, Ronald (Melissa) Ostant, and Connie Powers; grandchildren, Michael (Emily) Garvey, Robbie Wallis, Matthew (Samantha) Wallis, and Nicholas Garvey; great-grandchildren, Madison, Michael & Logan; and a friend, Jack Lynch.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff of the Kent General Hospital ICU staff for their compassion and care throughout his final days and hours. They were angels.
Burial will be private.
Memorial donations may be sent to Autism Speaks 1060 State Rd., Second Floor, Princeton, NJ 08540; or the SPCA, 32 Shelter circle, Camden, DE 19934.
