Robert Thomas Nolan, of Smyrna, passed away on Wednesday June 3, 2020 at his home. He was 87.
He was born in Elizabeth, NJ on August 25, 1932, the son of the late Mary C. (nee Grazulis) and Leo M. Nolan.
He was a graduate of Blessed Sacrament ES, Thomas Jefferson HS (both in Elizabeth), and resided in Elizabeth, Roselle, Plainsboro, and Columbus, NJ before retiring to Smyrna DE.
He completed a printing apprenticeship, and spent his career as a printer including at the Elizabeth Daily Journal until its closing. He was also an entrepreneur, having owned a print shop, Centurion Printing, in Kenilworth, NJ with a partner. In addition, he owned a Lawn Doctor franchise and Lawn Barber landscaping service.
He loved boats and boating, the beach and ocean, dogs, and most especially, his family. He enjoyed bowling into his 80's. People were drawn to him and always had a great sense of humor through the very end.
He is survived by a daughter, Judy Anderson and husband Thomas Anderson, of Olney, MD; five grandchildren, Kevin M. Wall, Casey N. Wall, Brian Nolan, Matthew Nolan, and Lauren Nolan; two great-grandchildren, Parker Riley Wall, and Camryn Marie Wall; a brother, Leo Nolan; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Nolan (wife of son Robert J); and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife Helen M. (nee Sullivan) Nolan; a son, Robert J. Nolan; and a brother, John Nolan.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Compassionate Care Hospice and the Mamie Warren Senior Center.
Services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday June 11 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call at 10:00 AM. (Public health guidance for face-coverings and social distancing must be followed.) Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
