Robert T. Ennis, 83 of Smyrna DE, passed away on Friday February 18, 2022 at home with family.
He was born in Smyrna on March 18, 1938 to the late Harry Ennis and Virginia Ennis.
He graduated from John Bassett Moore High School, Smyrna, in 1956 and was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard in 1965.
Bob retired from Acme Markets after 30 years in 1987. He enjoyed riding around town numerous times a day, visiting the firehouse, and letting his grand dogs out at least 2x day. He was a lifetime member of Citizens Hose Company, Smyrna, with various offices held. He was awarded Fireman of the Year in 1972. In addition, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Lions Club of Clayton, and a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Smyrna.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Ennis, of Smyrna; a son, Robert P. Ennis (Paula) of Clayton, DE; and a daughter, Christine A. Marlow (Louis) of Dover, DE; grandchildren, Christopher Sapp (Stephanie) of Smyrna; Brittany Lloyd (Ron) of New Castle, DE; Andrew Sapp, of Clayton; and Hailey Ennis, of Clayton; great-grandchildren, Julianna Craig and Carson Lloyd; siblings, Virginia Morris and Bruce Ennis; in-Laws, Ronnie Jones, Doris Gross, Billy and Dorothy Yeager, Marian and Calvin Embert, Bobby and Dorothy Yeager, and June Yeager; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Jean Onofrey; Harry T. Ennis, Jr, Doris Jones, Richard Ennis, and his beloved dog Blazer.
A visitation will be held 6-8 PM Wednesday February 23 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday February 24. Burial with Firefighter Honors will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Citizens Hose Co., PO Box 97, Smyrna, DE 19977.
