Paul
Markow
June 27, 1935 – June 18, 2022
Paul Markow, 86, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Coral Springs Rehab and Healthcare.
He was born in Wilmington on June 27, 1935, the son of the late Andrew and Eva Markow. He attended the Palmer School, in Wilmington, and was employed by the Speakman Company for 42 years.
He resided in New Castle for 44 years, then next door to Ruthann and Eric in Clayton for 12 years, and then at Somerford Place in Newark.
He loved anything to do with money - the stock market, Delaware Lottery, playing cards, betting on the horses at Delaware Park, and the slots at Dover Downs! His favorite color was green because "it's the color of money."
Paul was born and raised Ukrainian Orthodox and remained steadfast in his faith. He was known for his humor. He always had one-liners and was quick to give his comeback and opinion, even when it wasn't wanted! Be glad you weren't driving with him as a passenger. "Better get your speed on before you get peed on!"
He is survived by his daughter Ruthann and husband Eric of Smyrna DE; granddaughters Lauren Pyle of Northeast MD, Chloe and Melissa Pyle of Smyrna, DE; great-grandson Landon Sandstrom; nieces Nancy Lichty (Pete), Joan Markow, Sandy Slemko, Fran Donaway (Chuck), Becky Collison (Glenn), Jennifer Venables (David)- Nephews Tim Pugh (Tammy), Andy Markow (Maureen), John Bolinski (Martie), Allen Prettyman (Tara), Steve Prettyman (Jacquelyn), Joe Prettyman (Sherrie); brother-in-laws Hubert Prettyman, AZ, Joe Prettyman (Bettye) Harrington, DE and Steve Prettyman (Lorraine) Seaford, DE; and a dear friend Charlie Parker.
He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Mary Lou in 2018; and son, Chris in 1983. Paul was the youngest of 6 siblings: Marie, Steve, John, Ann and Stella.
Services will be held Tuesday June 28, 2022 at 12 PM at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call at 11 AM. Father Steven Hutnick, of St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church will preside. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Somerford Place and Coral Springs for their kindness and patience!
Paul's favorite quotes were "I got a cellar full of sorry's!" and "The sun don't shine on one dog's ass all the time!"
