Patricia “Patty” Lynne (Woodall) Wootten, 67, of Smyrna, Delaware, passed away at home on October 8, 2026 surrounded by loved ones. The daughter of the late Julian Biddle Woodall and Mary Helen Woodall, Patty grew up in Clayton, Delaware and spent her entire life in the Smyrna/Clayton area. She graduated from Smyrna High School in 1977 and went Delaware Technical Community College and the University of Delaware. She worked as a secretary for the Smyrna School District for several years before spending 32 years at Hirsh Industries in Dover until she retired in June 2026.
Patty was someone who never hid her love and care for the people in her life. She regularly talked about her favorite activities: riding motorcycles and going on trips with her husband and friends, visiting her daughter in Colorado, cooking and enjoying dinner with her son and grandsons for holidays, and her annual beach trip to the Outer Banks with her brother and nephews.
Many counted Patty among their very best friends, and for good reason. She was kind, thoughtful, and always kept in touch with friends and family, never forgetting a birthday or special occasion.
Patty is survived by her husband James “Pete” Wootten, children Abbie Preble (Jacob) and Christopher Mood (Anna), grandchildren Luke Mood and Noah Mood, brothers Julian Woodall and William Woodall, several nephews and nieces, and cats Gypsy, Blackie, and Scooter.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 from 11 a.m. until noon at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home at 123 West Commerce Street in Smyrna, Delaware. The funeral service will be held at noon, followed by the burial at Odd Fellows Cemetery, also in Smyrna.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that anyone who’d like to remember Patty please donate in her memory to the First State Animal Center and SPCA, 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934 or American Cancer Society.
