Patricia J. "Pat" Barcus, of Smyrna, DE, passed on Sunday March 17, 2024, at Christiana Hospital, Newark surrounded by family.

She was born in Wilmington, DE on August 15, 1945, to the late Robert and Florence Murray. She was a 1963 graduate of Middletown High School. Pat attended Delaware Technical & Community College and worked as a keypunch operator for Kent General Hospital. She later worked for the DE Dept. of Disabled Children and was a staff supervisor for the DE Dept. of Health.

Pat enjoyed cooking, fishing, gardening, and trips to the beach. She cherished family above all.

She is survived by her husband Elwood Wilson Barcus; two sons, Eric Barcus (Libby) of DeBary, FL, and Patrick Barcus, of Townsend, DE; 3 grandchildren, Erica, Elissa, and Emilee; 4 great-grandchildren, Anthony, James, Cole, and Elizabeth; and a sister, Sabina Moffitt, of Blackbird, DE.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Christiana Murray, Carolyn Shaffner, Elizabeth Henderson, R. Charles (Charlie) Murray, Bruce Murray, and William "Bill" Murray.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to her Christiana Care Medical team and her many caregivers.

A visitation will be held 7-9 PM Friday March 22 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna. A second visitation will be held at the funeral home at 11 AM Saturday March 23, with services at 12 PM. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.
