Nick Govorko passed away on July 5, 2018 at Westminster Village in Dover. He was 90.

He was born on September 11, 1927 near San Jose California. He was the 7th child of George & Eva Vukosov Govorko.

He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marines and a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of the Korean, the "Cold War" and Viet Nam conflicts. During his final voyage from May 1945 to late Feb. 1946, the vessel he served on circled the world departing San Francisco and ending in New York City. He was stationed at Roswell, NM during the "UFO" landing. He spent 20 years in the U.S. Air Force in the public information and recruiting fields. He was awarded the A.F. Commendation Medal in 1956 along with many other awards to follow.

He retired from active duty in 1966, and was employed as an executive vice president with an importing conglomerate in Bergen County, NJ for 22 years before retiring in Delaware.

He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Evans Govorko of 65 years who passed Dec 8, 2016. His surviving family members are Gayle Govorko Barcus and her husband Raymond Barcus Jr. of Blackbird DE; a Step-Grand Daughter Heather Barcus of Townsend; and his long- time friend Fred Voss of Dover. He has numerous nieces and nephews scattered throughout the U.S.

He was a 30+ year member of Dover Elks Lodge #1903. His hobbies included golfing, bowling, traveling, and of course his Wednesday Breakfast Club at Boscovs. If you came to visit his house he would check you before you left to make sure you didn't take any of the silverware. He loved his birds and had one of the busiest birdbaths in town. He was known for his quick-witted sense of humor.
