Neal M.
Carter
November 25, 1941 – January 7, 2016
Neal M. Carter, 74
DOVER - Neal M. Carter of Dover passed away Thursday, January 7, 2016 at his home.
Neal was born and raised in the Dover area. He graduated from Caesar Rodney High School in 1959. After graduation, he enlisted in the National Guard. During his early working years, Neal was an electrician and then began working for his father-in-law at Lee F. Slaughter New and Used Cars as a salesman. He began his own business when he bought Frank's Market which he owned for 3 years and where he began his meat cutting career. He sold that business (which later became Witt Brothers) to former employees. His life-long career was with Acme Markets which lasted 28 years. He held several positions at various locations on the eastern shore where he made many friends.
He loved to watch Nascar and all sports. He was a passionate Eagles fan. He passed his love of sports onto his daughters and grandsons. In earlier years, he also enjoyed golfing and hunting. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandsons. It was the highlight of his week when they came for their weekend sleepovers. During their visits, the topic of conversation always revolved around sports and they learned that passion for sports from him. He very much enjoyed his monthly lunches with his Caesar Rodney classmates as well as, those with his cousins.
Neal will forever be missed by his family and friends. In addition to his parents Med and Iva Carter, Neal was preceded in death by his sister Phyllis Gehrmann and her husband Donald Gehrmann and his son-in-law Brian Miller. He is survived by his loving wife, Terri, of 53 years, his daughters, Kris King and her husband Bill and Kim Kilby and her husband Steve and his grandsons Matt and Nick Miller. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law Chip and Mark Slaughter and their families, nephew, Greg Gehrmann and his family as well as many cousins.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to doctors Sanjeev Patel, MD, David Jawahar MD, and Michael Sweeney, MD and their staff for their loving care and support for Neal.
