Obituary

Michael Wayne Favre, 54, of Smyrna, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Friday January 9, 2015 after a five month battle with lung cancer that he so courageously fought. Born October 26, 1960 in West Chester, Pennsylvania, he grew up in New Castle, Delaware. He attended New Castle County Schools and was also a volunteer firefighter with Holloway Terrace Fire Station in New Castle, DE for a number of years alongside his father Byron. Locally, he loved to play his music "ICP" loud, collect dragon sculptures and other unique items, and just be the life of the party. He was well-known around home for his antics' that would bring a smile to your face. He is survived by his wife and soulmate of 17 years, Rebecca. He is also survived by his five step-children: two step-daughters, Pennie Lewis (Alex), of Dover, and Rebekah Mujica (Mitch), of Smyrna; and three step-sons: Jonathan Shoemaker (Lisa), of Pickens, SC, Melvin Shoemaker (Elyse), of Woodbridge, VA, and Perry Shoemaker (Katie), of Liberty, SC. Also surviving are his brother, James Favre, of Newark, DE; his sister-in-law Helen Favre, of New Castle; his grandmother, Beatrice George, of Leesburg, FL; and 16 grandchildren who loved and adored him along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who became his family too. He was preceded in death by his parents Byron and Loretta Favre, and one brother Anthony Favre. Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of Mike's life at 12 PM Saturday January 17 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna.
