Obituary

Marie D (Fountain) Carney of Smyrna, Delaware passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family and friends February 20, 2015 she was 78. She was born in Plattsburgh, NY to the late George Fountain and Stella Latour. Retired from Zurich Insurance, Co. where she was an underwriter for 20 years in Chicago Illinois. Marie was very active in her church and community. She was the charter president of the Smyrna chapter of the Columbiettes. She was also a member of Sodality at St. Polycarp's Parish. Marie was always volunteering her time to help others. She loved going to Mass every day. When she wasn't at the parish you would find her playing cards and bingo at the Bon Ayre Community Center. She was creative whether knitting a new blanket or cooking a new meal from one of her thousands of recipes. Her greatest joy though was spending time with family. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Aloysius J Carney. She is survived by: her brother George Fountain, and his wife Alice Fountain; her 4 children: Michael & Debra Carney, Stephen Carney, Anne Marie & Michael Pyle, Brian & Trish Carney, her eight grandchildren: Melissa Francis, Mark Hassel, Shannon Carney, Kimberly Carney, Sean Pyle, Colin Pyle, Joseph Carney, and Daniel Carney; six great grandchildren: Alyssa Carney, Brooke Carney, Riley Carney, Mason Carney, Brady Francis and Paige Siebert; as well as many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank compassionate care hospice as well as her many friends for their care and support. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Polycarp Parish Friday February 27 at 11 am. Visitation will be at 10 am in the parish hall on the same date. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Brother Vincent Columbiettes #7517, 135 Ransom Lane, Smyrna, DE 19977.
