Marie A.
Blomquist
May 5, 1946 – December 8, 2022
Marie Antoinette Blomquist passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 8, 2022, with her husband by her side. Marie was born on May 5, 1946, in Salem, NJ to the late Alfredo Sr. and Angela "Jean" Romano. She graduated from St. James High School and went on to graduate from cosmetology school. She met her husband Rodney at a USO dance at the Dover Air Force Base, and they married on September 9, 1967.
Marie spent her career in the cosmetology field. When she was home raising her three children, she did hair in her home for various friends and family. Upon returning to work, she taught cosmetology at Schilling-Douglas School of Hair Design, eventually moving into the position of Director. She excelled at teaching, which earned her the Maison de Paris National Cosmetology Instructor of the Year in 1988. Chances are, if you had any cosmetology procedure performed in New Castle County, Marie had an influence on your cosmetologist.
When not working, Marie could be found at a ball field or a gym first cheering on her son, Bryan, or her twin daughters, Angela and Nichole, then cheering on her grandchildren. She also enjoyed her travels with Rodney, especially their annual trips to Florida to see their best friends, Paul and Nancy Bonafacino.
Marie is survived by her husband, Rodney; son, Bryan Sr. (Jodi), daughter, Angela Blomquist-Thompson (Ray Hartung), daughter, Nichole Sutton (Brian); grandchildren, Bryan Jr. and Bayli Blomquist; Rebeka Kubik (Tyler David); Elise (Anthony Capuzzi); Morgan, and Paige Thompson; Brian Jr. (Maddie Carter), Alexcia, Landon, Tryston, and Caleb Sutton; great-grandson, Hawthorne Sutton; sister, Lisa Lacobie (David); brother, Alfredo Romano Jr. (Susan); and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents and brother, Robert Romano.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church (15 Gender Road, Newark, DE) starting at 11:30 am with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 12:30 pm. Interment will be following mass at 2:00 pm at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery (2465 Chesapeake City Drive, Bear, DE). In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation via their website https://t2t.org in Marie's name.
