Obituary

Margarita Laluyan Sevillena (Margo), 88, of Smyrna, DE passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, DE.

She was born in Pototan Iloilo, Philippines on February 22, 1937, the daughter of the late Roman and Aurelia Laluyan.

Margo was an avid dancer in traditional Filipino dances, as well as a competitive volleyball player.

She earned a Baccalaureate of Science in Pharmacy from Universitas Sti. Augustini de Iloilo, and a Certified Medical Technologist from the School of Medical Technology at St. John's Episcopal Hospital in Brooklyn, NY

Margo retired as a Medical Technologist from St. John's Hospital.

Being the wife of a retired Coast Guardsman, she lived in Brooklyn, Massachusetts, Louisiana, Long Island, Governors Island, Jersey City, Piscataway and finally Smyrna, DE.

She loved ballroom and line dancing, played the piano, enjoyed traveling and cruising, and gardening - orchids flourished under her care. Margo baked the best bibingka - her signature dessert that was always requested.

She was an active member of the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality of St Polycarp, an active member of the Filipino Prayer Group to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, a former active member of Our Lady of Fatima Filipino American Association (OLFFAA). She received 'In Recognition of Your Service, Loyalty and Dedication to the Association' plaque from OLFFAA.

She is survived by her husband, Eligio Sevillena of Smyrna, DE; children, Anna Melissa Berberabe of Ringoes, NJ (spouse Anthony Berberabe), Edward Sevillena of Concord, CA (spouse Lorela Bragado-Sevillena), and Jennifer Serra of East Hanover, NJ (spouse Jaime Serra); grandchildren, Ethan Berberabe, Jared Berberabe, Lana Sevillena, Julian Serra, Jayden Serra, and Joy Serra.

She was predeceased by her siblings, Sylvia Laluyan Valle, Henrietta Laluyan Cantos.

A visitation will be held 3-6pm Monday March 17, 2025 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna. Mass will be held 11am Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at St. Polycarp Catholic Church, 55 Ransom Lane, Smyrna. Light refreshments will be served after the Funeral Mass in the parish hall from 12 noon - 1pm.

Interment will be 2pm Tuesday March 18 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear, DE. A reception will be held after the committal service.

Margo lived a life filled with faith, love and a spirit of adventure. She cherished every moment with family and friends, found joy in traveling all over the world, and had a deep affection for animals, especially dogs, cats and birds. She passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and generosity
