Margaret S. Hurd, of Clayton, passed away on Sunday September 6, 2015 at Bayhealth Medical Center, Dover. She was one month shy of her 98th birthday. She was born in Millington, MD on October 7, 1917, the daughter of the late Harold H. and Nellie M. Stauffer. She graduated from Caroline County High School in Denton, MD, and attended two years post-graduate school. Mrs. Hurd was employed by John Roth's Grocery Store and McNaughton's Pharmacy, both in Clayton, until she left to care for her parents. Until her health declined, she enjoyed participating in the Women's Morning Circle at Ewell's -St. Paul United Methodist Church in Clayton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl A. Hurd, and a brother, Harold E. Stauffer. She is survived by a daughter, Ruth W. Banta and her husband P. Brooks Banta, of Smyrna; two granddaughters, Terry Winkowski and her husband Tom, of Clifton, VA; and Karen Banta Burnett, of Hockessin; and three great-grandchildren, Brooks Burnett and his wife Erika; Alex Winkowski; and Chester Burnett. The family would like to express their appreciation to her caregivers: Marie, Patti, Rita, Melanie, and Hannah for their help with her care. Services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday September 12 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce Smyrna, where friends may call at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.
