Lawon Newton Hinton Underdown

Our dear Mother, Lawon Newton Hinton Underdown was called home to the best place on Sunday January 14, 2024 at the age of 102.

Lawon was loved and respected by all who knew her. She had a long employment history working for the U.S. government in Washington, D.C., was a published author and civil rights activist.

She leaves behind a daughter, Lawon Hinton Johnson (Alvin); son, Hubert H. Hinton III; adopted daughters, Ida Davis Lockette (Bruce); Celestine Davis Boatright (Norman); step daughter Kellene Underdown Bruce, and late grandson, Donnel Wesley Johnson; and a host of friends.
