Kathleen Mary
Huston
February 3, 1949 – March 15, 2020
Kathleen Mary Huston, affectionately known as "Aunt Cassie" or simply "Kathy", left our world on Sunday, March 15, 2020, at the age of 71. Kathy lived in Smyrna DE at the time of her death. She passed surrounded by her friends and Pastor at Kent General Hospital.
Kathy, born in Baltimore MD on Feb. 3, 1949, called Delaware her home for many years. She worked at Playtex in Dover, then the Donut Connection in Smyrna, where she met many of her neighbors. Her final workplace was Sheridan's Irish Pub, where she prepped and cooked. She made all the soups they served, and was known for her Chicken and Dumplings Dinner, a big hit both in Sheridan's and at her church, First Presbyterian of Smyrna. She won 1st Place at the Clayton Tavern Chili Cook-off in 2014. She made her friends laugh when the following year she didn't participate. She said she wanted to retire a winner!
Along with cooking, she enjoyed fishing, which she did with her son when he was young. That love for fishing stayed with him – he is a waterman today. She enjoyed gardening and had a collection of wind chimes that she liked sitting outside and listening to.
Her greatest joy in her last years was her connection to God and her church. She was grateful that her Lord accepted her as who she was, regardless of her past mistakes. She was grateful that her "church family", as she called them, also loved her and accepted her with open arms. One of her greatest joys was when she became a Deacon in 2017. Along with her duties as a deacon, she would assist in the kitchen and with the fundraisers. Kathy always helped with the annual St. Patrick's Day Dinner, including the last dinner held on March 6, just before she took so ill. She was a fixture during the USDA Food Distribution, regularly helping to distribute much needed food to her neighbors. Many times, she expressed her joy and appreciation for the love and friendship that she experienced.
Kathy is survived by her son, Thomas Hughes (Nancy), her granddaughter, Alyssa Hughes, her sisters, Bernadette and Patricia (Bobby), many nephews and nieces, and her dearest friend Roslyn Rieth. She was pre-deceased by her brother William and sister Mary.
Kathy requested cremation with interment at Holy Hill Cemetery of First Presbyterian Church, Smyrna.
Graveside services at Holy Hill Cemetery (by Lake Como in Smyrna) will be held 11:00 AM Saturday June 13. If weather conditions are unfavorable, the service will be held in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, Smyrna.

Our pain at her passing is great. But, as Kathy was very fond of saying, "This, too, shall pass."
