Karen Marie Haas, 78, of Smyrna, Delaware, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026, at her son's home while receiving hospice care, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on May 1, 1948, in Chester, Pennsylvania, Karen was the daughter of Kathleen M. Matt and Walter D. Matt.

Karen earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Delaware and dedicated her career to serving others. She retired from the State of Delaware after many years of service.

Karen is survived by her loving children: her daughter, Patricia Moore; her sons, Michael R. Haas and his wife, Amy Haas, and David Haas. She also leaves behind seven cherished grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and happiness.

She is also survived by her three sisters: Kathleen Matt and her husband Micheal Moore of Newark, Delaware and their children Carolyn Moore and Kelli Moore; Elaine Matt of Lewes, Delaware; and Eila Matt and her son Brandon Williams of West Palm, Florida.

Karen will be remembered for her caring heart, her dedication to her family, and the kindness she showed to everyone she met.

A private family gathering will be held to celebrate Karen's life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice or may be given to the family, according to the family's preference.
