Obituary

John Frederick Ritterhoff, of Camden-Wyoming, DE, passed away on Friday November 7, 2025 at his home. He was 66.

He was born in Philadelphia, PA on June 29, 1959, the son of the late Robert Ernest Ritterhoff and the late Vivian Margaret Jones Ritterhoff.

John was a proud Eagle Scout and was a graduate of McDonough School, Owings Mills, MD where he was awarded the A. Ludlam Michaux, Jr. Award which is given to the seniors who are integral and foundational to the everyday operations of the school. He later earned an AA degree from Delaware Technical & Community College in Dover, DE, and was named Who's Who Among College Students while studying there.

In his early years, he was employed as a pantryman/first cook at Stone Harbor Yacht Club (NJ), and later worked in building with his father for Ritterhoff Homes. He had a long career as a biomedical engineer with ECRI, Beebe Medical Center, Premier/Aramark, and most recently at Bayheath Kent and Milford, retiring in 2022. He had attained biomedical engineering certification as CBET.

John had formerly lived in Cape May Court House and Avalon, NJ; Dover, and most recently in Camden-Wyoming, DE.

He loved traveling, computers, watches, building (carpentry, woodworking) and tinkering and was known as an avid conversationalist. In the 1990's he was a member of and served as Governor and Past Governor for Smyrna Order of the Moose.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Ritterhoff; children, Jaime & Scott Eggert, of Palmer, AK, Megan Desilet, of Middletown, DE, and Thomas J Ritterhoff & Ava Kashner, of Wilmington, DE; grandchildren, Madison, Austin, & Mason; a sister, Susan Crosby, and a brother, Robert C. Ritterhoff.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sara Ritterhoff, and a brother, Thomas R. Ritterhoff.

Services will be held 12 PM Friday November 14 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, with a visitation at 11 AM. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna, DE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to The Epilepsy Foundation, 527 Stanton-Christiana Rd. Newark, DE 19713.
