John Lawrence
Marine Ii
June 16, 1968 – March 7, 2019
John Lawrence Marine II, 50, of Dover, DE, passed away on March 7, 2019 at Bayhealth Medical Center, Dover.
He was born in Fort Monmouth, NJ on June 16, 1968 to John L. Marine and Maggie Leister.
After enjoying a long career in woodworking and cooking, John was a stay at home father for the last 15 years of his life.
John enjoyed the years he spent with his family in Maine. He loved being anywhere there was a lot of snow. He was a traveler and lived in many states, but in his last months he returned to his childhood hometown of Dover.
He was an enthusiastic sports fan, and could faithfully be counted on to cheer on his beloved NY Giants, NE Patriots, and Jeff Gordon. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, niece, nephews, and his dog.
One of his daughter's favorite memories of him is when he would wake her before everyone else to go out and get donuts for breakfast. His middle son loved their late- night sessions of Wii golf and rock music. His youngest son fondly remembers the day John took them to the animal shelter and they rescued their German Shepherd, Sadie.
He is survived by his wife, Johanna Hardy Marine; his children, Sean Hargett and his wife Amanda, Heather Marine, Gabriel Marine, and Levi Marine; Grandchildren, Kaylee Szelestei, Joshua Jones, Luke Hargett, and Charles Hargett; his mother, Maggie Leister and step-father, Bruce Leister; a sister Lisa Edwards; two brothers, Fred Marine, and Joseph Leister; his aunts, Judy van Koetsveld and Theresa Rawley; a nephew, TJ Edwards; a niece, Lauren Edwards; a great-nephew Rowan Edwards; and his pets, Stormageddon-Dark Lord of All, his beloved Chi-Spaniel.
He was predeceased by his father, John L. Marine. John's dogs were also included in John's idea of family. Some of his best loved and longest companions were Sgt. Pepper, Lazwraith, and Sadie.
John desired no formal ceremony or burial. The family will hold a private memorial at a later time.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Bayhealth Kent General Hospital and Delaware Hospice for their kindness and compassion to us during John's final day. They went above and beyond to make our worst day as easy as possible.
