Obituary

John Patrick Cereghin, age 60, of Smyrna, DE, went home to be with his Saviour on August 29, 2025, surrounded by his family.

John was born on Andrews Air Force Base on November 29, 1964 to John and Gladys (Lawrence) Cereghin. He enjoyed writing commentaries, collecting maps, and logging over 1500 stations on his radios. He attended Maryland Baptist Bible college where he earned his Bachelors of Theology and a Doctor of Biblical studies degree. He earned a Master of Theology from Foundations Bible College and Theological Seminary in Dunn, NC. He Pastored churches in Centerville, MD and Mebane, NC.  He was Academic Dean and teacher at Maryland Baptist Bible College before accepting the call from Grace Baptist Church in Smyrna, DE, where he was the Pastor for almost 28 years. He also worked as a UCC specialist with the Law office of Duane, Morris and Hecksher, LLP, Dover Delaware, Incorporating Services, Dover DE, and presently with Platinum Filings, Valley Steam, NY.

John was a lover of the Word of God. He wrote many commentaries as a legacy for his children. He loved studying and could be found in his recliner with his faithful dog, Snickers, most evenings.

He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Teresa (Pigott) Cereghin; his children, Patrick Cereghin, Virginia Beach, VA; Jennifer (Devon) Foster, Hope, IN; Andrew (Hannah) Cereghin, Nictaux, Nova Scotia, Canada; and Daniel Cereghin, Nictaux, Nova Scotia, Canada; his grandchildren, Adalynn Kate Foster, Robyn Mae Cereghin, Claire Noel Foster, and Titus James Cereghin; Mother-in-law, Carol Pigott, Greenwood, Nova Scotia, Canada, and sister-in-law Karen (Karl) Keith, Rockford, IL. He was predeceased by his parents and father-in-law, Wendell Pigott.

A visitation will be held 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM Tuesday September 9 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, with funeral services at 12:00 PM. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna.

Special thanks to the Cardiac Unit at Kent General Hospital, Dover, DE. Thank you to Erin, Olivia, and Ivy for their exceptional care while he was there.
