Joan M. Ferguson, of Smyrna, died peacefully on January 23, 2018 while holding hands in prayer with her son David A. Turek.
Joan was born in Chester, PA on December 14, 1943, and resided in Smyrna for most of her life. She was an active member of Ewell's-St. Paul UM Church, Clayton, where she served as the Grief Counseling Coordinator for many years. She was an active member of the Ladies Morning Circle, and a lay leader of the church. God and her family were the most important parts of her life. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with whom she spent many memorable years.
Joan will be remembered for her caring and generous soul/personality. She was always putting others before herself and responding to the needs of others, whether material needs or care-giving.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Ferguson; her parents, Arthur and Ann Whaley; her brother, Arthur Whaley Jr.; her son, Dwayne Turek; her daughter, Debbie Turek; and a daughter-in-law, Kelli D. Turek.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Rose Turek of Fenwick, WV; a daughter-in-law, Kelly L. Turek, of Clayton; four grandchildren, Adara Turek, David Turek Jr., Amber Cole, and Brandy Turek; five great-grandsons; her friends Anthony and Eddie; and her best friend, Sandy Vickery.
Services will be 12 PM Monday February 5 at Ewell's-St. Paul United Methodist Church, 401 West St., Clayton, where friends may call at 11 AM. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Ewell's-St. Paul UM Church, P.O. Box 266, Clayton, DE 19938.
