"Casting all your care upon him; for He careth for you."

Janet Elaine Durham, of Smyrna, passed away on Sunday October 13, 2024 at her home. She was 79.

She was born in Dover, DE on April 15, 1945, the daughter of the late James and Stella Bishop. Janet was raised in Hartly/Dover area, and graduated from Ceaser Rodney High School. She lived in the Kenton and Smyrna areas for most of her life. After the passing of her husband in 1984, she started Durham's Family Daycare. Mom was known as Aunt Janet, mom-mom and friend to each child in her care for over 25 years. She loved and cared for numerous children and often kept in contact with them afterwards. Mom also loved animals and had many different types throughout her years, dogs, cats, birds, bunnies, and even a monkey as a child.

Janet loved to bake, especially cookies - chocolate chip was her specialty! She was a member of Grace Baptist Church for over 40 years.

She is survived by a daughter, Lori Mayes, of Smyrna DE; a grandson, Alex Mayes, of Portland ME; a sister, Marlyn Barr, of Magnolia DE; two nieces, Pam Barr, of Smyrna DE, and Joanne Donovan, of Felton DE; and Pat McGinnis, a friend of over 40 years, of Hartly DE.

She was predeceased by her husband, Grover Durham in 1984.

A private graveside service will be held at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna, DE. Pastor John Cereghin will officiate.
