Obituary

James A. Solloway passed away peacefully at the Country Rest Home in Greenwood on March 12, 2015 following a long illness. He was born March 3, 1929 in Sudlersville, MD, the second son of the late Clarence and Helen Hurd Solloway. Mr. Solloway owned and operated a service station in Smyrna for over 40 years. He was awarded numerous times by Exxon for keeping his station spotless and for excellent customer service. He enjoyed traveling to Nashville with his wife, and having breakfast at Bob Evans with the "Breakfast Club" (his brothers and close friends). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine, his sons Jimmy and Bobby, his sisters Patricia Solloway, Louise Pearson, Betty Melvin, and Shirley Legar, and his brother Robert B. Solloway. He is survived by his sons David and his wife Tracy of Smyrna, and Ben and his wife Brenda of Hartly. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Cathy Diven and her husband Greg of Smyrna, Adam Solloway of Smyrna, Brooke Thorpe and her husband Tony of Garner, NC, and Samantha Solloway of Hartly. He was proud of his five great-granddaughters: Megan, Haley, Emily, Liddy Grace, and Taylor. In addition, he leaves his brothers Earl and Jack of Smyrna, and Fletcher and his wife Doris of Sudlersville; and his sisters Audrey Clough, Sharon "Cookie" Dempsey, and Bonnie Lightcap. Mr. Solloway was fortunate to have many wonderful caregivers over the years, including long-time family friend Reggie Heath of Dover, Ardis Funck, Vickie Orr, Brooke Matthes, Becky Sensenig, Regina Carter, and Linda Alley. Services will be held on Saturday, March 21 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home in Smyrna, located at 123 W. Commerce St., at 2 p.m. Viewing will start at 12 noon. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows cemetery in Smyrna. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to First State SPCA, 32 Shelter Cir, Camden, DE 19934; Smyrna Wesleyan Church, 433 W.
