James E. "Jim" McNair, 85, of Smyrna, Delaware, passed away on Tuesday April 25, 2023, at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital, Dover.
He was born April 12, 1938, in Eden, North Carolina to the late Charles Edwin McNair and Rachel Mae Hundley. He moved to Delaware in his youth and joined the Air National Guard. He retired after many years as a police officer with the Wilmington Police Department and had worked for the Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission (ABCC) and Delaware Department of Corrections.
He enjoyed traveling the US by travel trailer and motorcycle with his wife, Diana, as well as boating, and mowing the grass in his John Deere tractor.
He is survived by his wife, Diana H. McNair; a son, James E McNair, Jr. (Partner Katie Talarowski) of Wilmington, Delaware; a daughter, Terri McNair (Partner Lori) of Newark, Delaware; a stepson, Donald Harmon (Patti) of Smyrna, Delaware; grandson, Patrick McNair, New Castle, Delaware; grandson, Brenden McNair (Susan), Cochranville, Pennsylvania, granddaughter, Lauren McNair of E. Nottingham, Pennsylvania, grandson, Mike Ronig, Smyrna, Delaware, granddaughter, Rebecca Hanlon (Jacob) of Middletown, Delaware, Thomas Harmon, Smyrna, Delaware; great-grandchildren, Jacoby McNair of New Castle, Delaware, Jacob, Jr., Madison and Gracie Hanlon of Middletown, Delaware, and Brynlee and Ella Harmon of Smyrna, Delaware; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and his dogs, Justice, Cindi and Sheba.
He was predeceased by his brothers John McNair and Joe McNair.
Funeral services will be held at 12 PM Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, with a visitation at 11 AM. Interment will be private.
