James Dale Hindt Sr., of Clayton, Delaware, passed away at his home on Monday April 13, 2026. He was 93 years old.

He was born in Wilmont, Minnesota on January 9th 1933, the son of the late Leroy Hindt and Dorthella Hurlbut Hindt.

He graduated from Wilmont High School before enlisting in the Air Force where he fought in the Korean War and went on to serve in the civil service as an Avionic Specialist. Jim received multiple awards and recognitions from the United States Air Force.

He retired in 1989 and went on to be a contractor and farmer for the remainder of his career.

Jim enjoyed playing on bowling teams, collecting antique John Deere tractors, fishing, gardening, playing the slots and spending time with family.

He is survived by a son, Michael David Hindt (Nicole); his grandchildren, Ashton, Brian, Bridgette, Brittany, Dana, Daniel, Jessica and Kaila; multiple great-grandchildren; his siblings, Claris J. Gott, Ethel J. Leary, Ronald Hindt, Lindy K. Biger, Pamela J. Ulmer, and Ricky Lee Hindt.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jean Hindt; his sons, James Dale Hindt Jr., Daniel Lee Hindt and William Brian Hindt; and siblings, Glenn E. Hindt, Verna Mae Miland, Melvin L. Hindt, Shyrlee Friscop and Nancy L. Hindt.

Services will be held 12:30 pm Saturday April 18 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, with a visitation at 11:30 am. Burial with military honors will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.
