Obituary

James (Jim) F. Carroll Sr. passed away suddenly Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the age of 77.

Raised in Townsend, DE, Jim was the third of 13 children born to the late Calvin G. Carroll Jr. And Helen Simmons Carroll.

Many words could be used to describe him, but kind-hearted and a wonderful friend fit him the best.

Jim proudly served in the United States Army Special Forces serving in Vietnam War. During the war, he was awarded numerous military honors including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Silver Star.

He loved to travel and his work carried him all over the world.

An avid pool player, he participated in many tournaments, winning many matches. He could always be found weekly, playing at the Moose Club in Wyoming, DE.

Jim was his sister Helen's alarm clock and would faithfully call to wake her every morning before his daily visit with his Hardees family in Greentree shopping center. The staff at Hardees, Danny, Larry, Michelle and others too numerous to mention, did not see him as a customer, but as a friend and mentor.

Additionally, he would meet daily, discussing many topics with his veteran friends Tommy Smith, Bill Hufnal and prior to relocating to Oklahoma, Scott Henderson.

He was a simple man that cared for everyone he encountered.

Jim is preceded in death by his brothers Edward (Sandy), Robert (Doris), Ralph, Ronnie (Julia), Wayne (Jinny), David (Pam), and Mike.

Jim is survived by his loving daughter Susan Boyce with whom he spent many happy hours. Susan was his main caregiver and they were often seen going out for meals or just enjoying each other's company.

Additionally, he is survived by his sons, James F. Carroll Jr. and Artie Carroll and daughters, Angel Carroll (Ricky) Crozier and Cathy Orozco. Brother George (Jeannie), sisters Helen (Jim) Hadaway, Brenda (Reba)(Rick) Cleveland, Terri (Marvin) Biggs, and  Patti Pitcher, 19 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 11 AM Friday May 13 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Disabled American Veterans either on line or by mail at PO Box 14301 Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
