"Al" Collins
June 14, 1928 – June 7, 2017
James A. "Al" Collins II, of Smyrna, formerly of East Newark, Kearny, Harrison, and Manchester, NJ, passed away at his home on June 7, 2017. He was 88.
He was born in East Newark, NJ on June 14, 1928 (Flag Day).
Mr. Collins was employed as a delivery driver with Teamsters Local 802 Silvercup Bread, and Local 194 Bond-Taystee. He was also employed as a welder with Singer-Kearfott.
He will be remembered as a good man, the best father, and "Superman" to us. Al's favorite expression was to say "put one foot in front of the other and don't think about it"!
He was preceded in death by his spouses, Elizabeth (nee Borgen) Collins and Maureen (nee McGlade) Collins; a son James A. Collins III; sisters, Alice Stypul, Doris Keszkowski, and Lenore Collins, and his dogs, Patch and Flippy.
He is survived by his children, Deborah A. Horvath, Cynthia Collins, Debra Chinsky, Denise Menendez, and James Mullin; grandchildren, Alison Wirth and Rich Davila, and Michael Wirth and wife Lauren; a brother, Donald Collins; and his dogs Angel, Belle, Lulu, and Champ.
A visitation will be held 11:00 AM – 2:30 PM Sunday June 11 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where services will begin at 2:30 PM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Delaware Hospice Inc., 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
