Howard L. "String" Donovan IV, of Clayton, passed away on Thursday March 30, 2017. He was 59.

He was born in Elkton, MD, the son of the late Howard Donovan III and the late Mary Gault.

He was employed with ISE America as a transportation manager and had previously been a truck driver for many years.

He was an active member of the Sons of the American Legion, Post 14, Smyrna, and led the Veterans Relief Fund Committee.

String was an avid Redskins and NASCAR fan. He loved spending time with and teasing his many grandchildren, especially Kaelin and Taelyr. He also enjoyed entertaining others with his singing and guitar playing.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Maude Donovan; his children, Mandi (Mark) Gaglione, Jason (Danielle) Donovan, Sidney (Hallie) Moor, Jessica Donovan, and two other children; his siblings, Steve Donovan, Betty Treadwell, Deanna Lanphear, Michael Donovan; and many grandchildren.

Services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday April 6 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow at American Legion Post 14, Smyrna.

Interment will be private.
