Obituary

Howard Ronald Jones (Jonesy), of Smyrna, DE passed away on June 9, 2024 at Bayhealth Hospital Kent Campus surrounded by his family. He was 88.

He was born in Millington, MD on April 12, 1936, the son of the late Benjamin Earl Jones and Ruth Joanna Snow (Seamans). He retired from employment with the State of Delaware, Delaware Home and Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna.

Jonesy loved watching baseball, and his favorite team was the Baltimore Orioles. He also loved traveling and spending time with his family and friends - especially his granddaughter Allison.

He was a member of Citizens' Hose Company, Smyrna for over 50 years and was a longtime member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Smyrna.

He is survived by a daughter, Lisa Embert and son-in-law, John; granddaughter Allison Embert; sisters, Ruth Ann Bentley of Clearwater, FL and Edna Mae Boutwell (Mike) of Smyrna, DE; a half-sister, Cynthia Hope Morton of MD; a sister-in-law, Virginia Morris of Milford, DE; a brother-in-law Bruce C. Ennis of Smyrna, DE; a sister-in-law Shirley Ennis of Smyrna, DE; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Doris Ann Jones (Ennis); step-son, Roger W. Ennis; a brother Benjamin E. Jones, Jr; and a half-sister Sarah Jones.

A special thanks to Dr G. Jeffrey Milan along with the nurses and CNAs from BayHealth Hospital that cared for him this past month.

Funeral services will be held 1 PM Friday, June 14, 2024 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, DE where friends may call from 11 AM until the time of services. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to either Asbury United Methodist Church, 20 W. Mt Vernon St, Smyrna, DE 19977; or Citizens Hose Company, PO Box 97, Smyrna, DE 19977.
