Helen M. Slaughter, of Clayton, passed away at home on Wednesday June 4, 2014. She was 97 years old. She began her work career as a beautician, and later worked for New Castle County for several years. She then went to work for the State Of Delaware as an accountant for 20 years. Helen loved to read and enjoyed gardening and flowers. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jane Slaughter. She is survived by her four children, Son Edward Slaughter and his wife Melanie, of Port Penn DE; Son John C Slaughter and his wife Patricia Ann of Clayton DE with whom she lived with for the past 2 years; Daughter Helen Borkholder and her husband Sam, of Frederick MD.; and Daughter Roberta Slaughter of Atlanta GA. She had 11 grandchildren, Bill, Bobby, John, Scott, Eddie, Shelly, Paula, Michelle, George, Elicia, and Bobby, and several great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the staff of Compassionate Care Hospice for all of their kindness shown to the family and to Helen for the last two years. Services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday June 10 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.
