Obituary

Hedwig B. Markow passed away on Tuesday October 19, 2021 at Courtland Manor Nursing Home, Dover. She was 93.

She was born in Wilmington, DE on April 12, 1928 to the late Alexander Greloch and Marianna (Markowska).

She was a graduate of St. Hedwig's Parochial School and worked for a number of years and retired from Stuart Pharmaceutical.

She was raised in Wilmington, where she married her first husband in 1949. In 1959, the couple moved to New Castle, DE where they resided until 1973. In 1980, she and her second husband moved to Melbourne, FL, and later retired in Dover, DE.

She enjoyed her daily walks, meeting new friends, visiting her family, and outings to restaurants, movies, or Dover Downs. She loved music and  loved to laugh and share stories about her life with her family.

She is survived by a son, Stanley V. Stepnowski, Jr., and his wife Charlotte (Boring) Stepnowski; a grandson, Stanley V. Stepnowski, III and his wife, Jennifer; a granddaughter, Shauna B. Sullivan and her husband Robert; four grandsons, John, Henry, Alex, and Noah; a sister, Stella E. Grelock; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins.

She was preceded in death by her spouses, Stanley V. Stepnowski, Sr., and John J. Markow; brothers, Frank Greloch, Edward Greloch; a sister, Tessie Meyers; along with one sister and one brother due to the Spanish flu.

The family thanks the staff at Courtland Manor for the last five years of care and attention.

A visitation will be held 6-8:00 PM Wednesday October 27 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W.  Commerce St., Smyrna.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Thursday October 28 at St. Hedwig Catholic Church, 408 S. Harrison St., Wilmington, DE, where a visitation will be held from 10–11:00 AM. Burial will be in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington .

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
