Obituary

Grace Elaine Davis Ennis, of Smyrna, passed away on Sunday October 1, 2017 at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 73.

She was born in Wilmington, DE on January 12th, 1944, the daughter of the late Porter L. Davis Sr. and Gertrude V. Pippin Davis.

She graduated from Bohemia Manor High School in 1962. There, she played Basketball and Track and Field. She graduated from Goldey-Beacom College.

She won a certificate of recognition from the Kent Country Women's Alliance in 2002-2003 and she served as the 28th District Democrat Chairperson for many years.

Grace worked in various positions through the years, including the health department in Cecil County, Maryland; an insurance agency in Wilmington; the Legislative Council for the Delaware General Assembly; and as a homemaker. She also worked lovingly and very tirelessly supporting her husband in his political career. She was a life member of the Citizens Hose Company Ladies Auxiliary since 1995 and was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, Smyrna.

In her day, she was an avid Bingo player. She also enjoyed Country Line Dancing. Grace also volunteered in her community and was genuinely eager to help people. In her spare-time she loved doing cross-word puzzles, watching HGTV, and cheered on the Baltimore Orioles.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Senator Bruce C. Ennis, of Smyrna; two daughters, Cindy Ennis, of Dover, and Sandra Ennis-Alexander and her husband Kenith, of Clayton; her grandchildren, Shelby Anne Alexander and Heather Grace Ennis; siblings, Porter L. Davis Jr. (Edith), and Laura Lynne Davis Williams; numerous nieces and nephews; many friends; and her dog Hillary.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother-in-law, H. Thomas Williams II.

Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday October 6 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call Thursday evening from 6-8:00 PM. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Asbury United Methodist Church, 20 W. Mt. Vernon St., Smyrna, DE 19977; or the Citizens Hose Company Ladies Auxiliary, PO Box 234, Smyrna, DE 19977.
