Obituary

Gerald C Short answered his calling from God on September 6, 2019 at 9:27pm. Gerald passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the age of 72, in Smyrna DE.

Gerald was born March 9, 1947 in Baltimore MD. He was the third son born unto Lander Short & Maize Smith, which whom proceeded him in death.

On November 26, 1968 Gerald married the love of his life, Yvonne Adams. and out of their union born two children Eric & Ericka. Years later he had what he referred to as also "his kids" grand-daughter, Kaila Short & great- grandson, Chance Short. Gerald also leaves three brothers Ronald (wife Sandie) Maurice (wife Paula) and Jami. Gerald also had 3 brothers Lander Jr, Wayne, Tyrone & sister Joann in which proceeded him in death. Mother & Father in laws, Laura & Eddie Adams, in which he loved greatly, also proceeded him in death. He leaves behind a very beloved/dedicated cousin Denise, adoring sister in laws, brother in laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives & friends.

In 1965 Gerald enlisted in the US Army. He served as a Drilled Instructor and was stationed in Korea, where he received numerous awards for his many achievements. He then served in the Army Reserve shortly thereafter.

In 1973, Gerald, Yvonne and at that time, only child (Eric) moved to Detroit MI where Gerald studied to become and Ordained Catholic Minister. However, Gerald chose a different path and decided to become a Journeyman Electrician. He completed the Electrical Apprenticeship Program and began employment with General Motors in 1979. Gerald then retired from GM in 2012 after 33 years while receiving an abundance of Awards, Certifications & Recognitions during his employment.

In 1996, Gerald recorded a music CD (For Your Listening Pleasure) where he performed live at GM's variety show. His performance was such a success, that GM did an individual article of Gerald in which was placed in the GM Tech Center's newspaper.

In 2002, Gerald completed Ground School as he began working on receiving his pilots license. He then became a member of the Tuskegee Airman & was then asked to join the Civil Air Patrol, in which he proudly accepted in 2003. (Gerald is currently a member)
