Genevieve Y.
Yost
December 24, 1930 – February 1, 2017
Genevieve Y. Yost, of Clayton, DE, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday February 1, 2017 at the home of her son, Edward Yost of Seaford, surrounded by loving family and caretakers.
Mrs. Yost was born December 24, 1930 in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Artie and Hazel Hornbuckle, but later moved to San Francisco with the family where she graduated from Balboa High School.
After graduation she met Ervin Yost, a sailor, at the movie theater where she worked. They were married for 64 years until his death in 2015. After having three children and moving up and down the West Coast they moved to Delaware when Ervin transferred to the Air Force, being stationed at Dover. Here two more children were born and Genevieve was busy raising her family.
She worked for awhile at the Piece Goods Shop and also in the Smyrna School District in Food Service.
Genevieve attended Smyrna Wesleyan Church where at one time she and her husband were youth group leaders. She also enjoyed playing her accordion and singing in the services and being a member of the choir.
She loved her family, especially the little ones, and was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother and just recently, great great grandmother. Genevieve was a devout Christian and great prayer warrior, always encouraging those around her in the faith. She studied much, trying to learn what God wanted for her.
She excelled at sewing and enjoyed embroidery and crocheting, and was a top notch cook and baker. She also enjoyed playing her piano often.
Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Ervin L. Yost.
She is survived by a sister, Barbara Riley of Belmont, CA; daughter Sharon Cahall (Jim) of Smyrna; daughter Brenda Thompson (Carlton) of Clayton; daughter, Linda Buckson (Larry) of Magnolia, TX; son, Eddie Yost (Isabel) of Seaford; daughter, Jo Yost of Houston; twelve grandchildren, Becky Payton, Jamie Cahall, Michael Cahall, Jessica Scott, April Balcerak, Bucky Buckson, Michelle Buckson, Larry Buckson, Craig Yost, David Yost, Christina Yost, and Brittny Yost; 30 plus great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
