Obituary

Frani F. Melda died peacefully on December 7, 2024, at Delaware Hospice in Milford, DE. He is survived by his son, Frani and his wife Carol, their children Lauren (husband Njal), Michael (finance Amanda) and Anne Marie; and his daughter, Marcia (Marcy) and her husband Scott, their children Finn and Meila. Also mourning his death are many friends and extended family members. Frani was born on November 25, 1945, in New York, NY.  His parents along with his brother Tony and his sister Simone, eventually moved to Woodland Beach, Delaware. Frani graduated from Smyrna High School in 1964, where he was the president of his class and a member of the football team. He enjoyed lifelong relationships with a group of close Smyrna friends. He married Marijane Mills and pursued a career as a teacher, earning a bachelor's degree from Delaware State University and a master's degree from Salisbury University. He worked at the Caesar Rodney School District as a teacher where he challenged students to always do their best. He eventually became a beloved principal at Welch Elementary and Star Hill Elementary, before his retirement. Frani was a lifelong learner, and he traveled to many different countries during his life with his ex-wife, Susan. He also maintained a connection with his Acme Market family, working in the produce department for many years. In retirement, Frani split time between Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and Dunedin, Florida. He shared his life with many dogs over the years and has left behind Becca in the care of Marcia. Frani could often be found walking his dogs in Dewey Beach, spending time talking with people and enjoying the beautiful beach.
