Eugene Neal
Higgs
June 7, 1948 – October 5, 2025
Eugene Neal Higgs, 77, of Ingleside, MD, passed away at his home on Sunday, October 5, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late William Jennings Higgs and Dorothy (Eck) Higgs.
Eugene graduated from Centreville High School in 1966, and continued to work on his family's dairy farm, Cornerview Farm, where he began working at the age of 10. He retired in 2021 after 55 years of passionate dedication. Mr. Higgs served on the Standing Committee of the Benedictine. He served as President of The Centreville High School Alumni Association for 11 years, and was also a member of the Queen Anne's County Jaycees. Eugene, along with his wife, received the Maryland Beautiful Parent Award in 1987, and the Father Murray award from The Benedictine School, and also served as co-chairs for the Benedictine Gala for several years.
Eugene devoted his time each year, as Santa Claus, visiting schools and events, and sharing Christmas joy for the challenged community. He was passionate about farming, his garden, and classic cars, but in his quieter moments, he cherished the time spent with his family. Eugene was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Besides his parents, Eugene was predeceased by 2 brothers, William Higgs and Thomas Higgs, and 1 sister, Wanda Mae Higgs. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Ruth (Dodd) Higgs; his daughter, Karen (Higgs) Ambruso and husband Christopher; his son, Gary W. Higgs; 3 granddaughters, Cali Ambruso, Karina Ambruso, and Secora Ambruso; 2 brothers, Clifford Higgs and Michael Higgs; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be held 12:00PM Friday October 10 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Sudlersville Cemetery, Sudlersville, MD. A Luncheon will follow at the Sudlersville Firehall.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Compass Hospice and to the ladies from Libby's Loving Hands.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Eugene's Memory may be sent to the Benedictine Open Community Program, 14299 Benedictine Lane, Ridgely, MD, 21660.
