Obituary

Eleanor Cochran Hartnett, 84, of Smyrna, DE passed away peacefully at Bayhealth Hospital on May 13, 2016 after a long illness surrounded by family. Eleanor was born May 11, 1932 in Galena, MD; she was the daughter of the late Frank Keith and Nellie Cochran. In addition to her parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband Pat, her sisters Louise, Agnes, and Patsy; and her brothers Happy, Dennis, Gene, Frank and Jack.

Eleanor is survived by her son Francis, his son Ashton, daughter Lindsay and grandson Kevin; her son Bill and wife Karen, their daughters Kelly, Lexie and son Danny; her daughter Mary Lou; and her son Keith, wife Teresa and daughter Desiree.

Eleanor's work career was primarily with Playtex International Corporation in Dover in a variety of positions and responsibilities until her retirement in approximately 1995. Upon retirement, Eleanor volunteered at Delaware Home and Hospital and many State/County/Federal voting stations. She loved politics, even telling then Senator Joe Biden she only voted for him because he was so good looking. Eleanor also held State and National leadership positions with American Legion Post 14 Auxiliary, Girls State and Teen Court.

Eleanor was fortunate to have many friends that she played cards with, RV'd with, and assisted her with volunteer activities. She will be greatly missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 11:00 AM Friday May 20, 2016 at St Polycarp Church, Ransom Lane and South St., Smyrna, DE. The viewing will be held from 6-8:00 PM Thursday May 19, 2016 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, DE. Interment will be in Galena Cemetery, Galena, MD.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Polycarp's Church, 135 Ransom Lane, Smyrna, DE 19977.
