Edward Daniel
Biter Jr.
December 28, 1932 – April 4, 2024
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather Edward Daniel Biter Jr. passed away on Thursday morning, April 4, 2024, in Dover, Delaware, surrounded by his family. He was 91.
He was born at the then-new Kent General Hospital in Dover on December 28, 1932 to the late Edward Daniel Biter Sr. and Mary Bolan Biter. He grew up in Dover along with four siblings, graduating among Dover High School's Class of 1950. After attending Beacom Business College and Lamson Business College in Arizona, he entered the US Air Force in 1952. He was stationed in Korea as a radio operator at the end of the Korean War, and served in the Reserves from his 1956 discharge until 1960.
Upon returning to Dover, he joined the sales staff of his father's auto dealership, selling Lincoln and Mercury cars. In 1960, he partnered with long-time friend Gerald Cullen to open the Biter and Cullen Quick Car Wash on Route 13 in Dover. They operated the business for 37 successful years, counting many of their customers as friends.
In 1961, he married his best friend Alice Marie Mood of Smyrna, DE. They raised a family together, and were blessed with 62 years of marriage.
His interests were varied, and when he was interested in a subject, he learned all that he could about it. In his youth, he loved flying small planes with his father, and made his first solo flight at age 15 in 1947. An avid history buff, he was a collector of WW I and II memorabilia. He became a ham radio operator (call sign NS3E) and enjoyed crafting his own telegraph keys by hand. In later years, he also enjoyed creating walking sticks from found wood, giving each its own unique style.
He was a lifelong member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, and was an active participant at the Adoration Chapel with his wife.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter Ann Marie Flood and her husband James; son Stephen Biter and wife Katrina; daughter Kathleen Kosior and husband Richard; and daughter Carol Bryson and husband Rick; seven grandchildren: James Flood IV, Julia Flood and husband Adam McGuire; Michael Kosior, Margaret Kosior, and Nicholas Kosior; Sarah Bryson and Matthew Bryson Jr.; and one great-granddaughter, Johanna McGuire.
His also survived by one sister, Isabelle Gonya. He was predeceased by siblings George Durney, Mary Ann Craver, and Cleon Biter.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 pm on Friday, April 12 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State St. in Dover. A visitation will be held the evening before, Thursday, April 11 from 7 until 9 pm at the Michael J. Ambruso Funeral Home, 1175 S. State St. in Dover.
