He was born on September 28th 1937 to Nathaniel Berger and Irene Callaway Berger in Amonate, Virginia. He was one of nine children. He loved fishing, hunting and sports, and played football, softball, golf, bowling and skeet shooting. He enjoyed woodworking, crafting, landscaping and boating. He received a Certificate of Accomplishment from the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary for boating skills and seamanship. He also received many bowling trophies. He and his wife moved to Delaware 1990.
Edward Berger was known as a confident and conscientious man who said what he meant and meant what he said. He was very devoted to family, joining with family members in Berwind, West Virginia every Thanksgiving. He was available as a resource and a mentor to younger members of the family. He helped siblings care for his aging mother and often visited with his parents on their birthdays, including his mother's 90th birthday.
He was a wonderful father and often took his son with him to sporting events. He also took his son's friends with him and his son to play in the park, go to the playground, play sports or just explore. He was a loving husband and a very active person. After moving to Delaware, he enjoyed cruising and traveling with his wife. He loved to worked in the yard and to build things. He was insightful, wise, humorous and honest.
In 2007, he suffered a major stroke and initially had a good recovery, able to return home where he was cared for by his wife. Unfortunately, he suffered several other strokes over the years and became bedridden. He thanked his wife for caring for him day in and day out, bathing, feeding, clothing and transporting him. They still enjoyed shows together, laughed and cried together.
He will be surely missed by his surviving family and friends.
