Obituary

On 10 July, 2022, Duane Ray Young (84), Smyrna, DE

passed away at Bay Health Hospital in Dover, DE.

Born May 12, 1938 in Easton, PA to Roy and Gladys Young,

he was a graduate of Elkton High 1956 and attended the U of Md through fall of 1956. Duane was a Master mason doing his work in DeMolay

and being raised to the 3rd degree in Elkton Lodge 48 (1960).

He served in the US Army 1961 through 1963 and as an officer in the Delaware State Prison System, retiring after 25 years as a lieutenant.

He spent his personal time serving his church, St Peter's Episcopal Church, in the vestry and choir

and his community as a volunteer with the Smyrna Board of Elections.

Duane was known for his love of family; passion for cooking; love of animals, especially dogs, frogs, deer and blue herons; and accepting all into his home.

He loved spending time at the beach in Delaware or South Carolina. He enjoyed fishing freshwater or salt but had a particular love for surf-casting and loved when he could do it with his family or friends to share the time.

Always catch and release only because he did not eat fish himself.

He is survived by his wife, Kathlee n and their children , son Michael (wife Terri), daughter, Dawn Arnold (husband Kelvin), son Robroy (wife Jen nifer ), and bonus daughter Lisa Embert (John) ;

from his first marriage to Joyce , daughte rs Tammy Lilly (Steve) , Bonnie Walker ,

Regina Koppe n haver ; brother Don ald Young , sister Sharon Young ;

h is grandchildren John, Payton, Kayla , Rachel, Tyler, Karen, Allison, Kody, Hannah, Elisabeth, Chloe, and Andrew ,

and 4 great grandchildren , and great grand dog, Star .

He is preceded in death by his parent s Roy and Gladys ,

dogs Missy, Fritzie, Sam, Princess, Beau, Princess, She- ra , Nory Beth, Knuffles , and Bentley.

A visitation from 6 to 8pm will be followed by a memorial service on Saturday, July 16th at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, Smyrna, DE. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in his name to the Prostate Cancer Research Institute , or St. Peter's Episcopal Church , Attn: Music Ministry, 22 N Union St, Smyrna, DE 19977 .
