David Michael Mowery of Smyrna, Delaware passed away on February 8, 2026, from complications of multiple illnesses. He is survived in Smyrna by his second wife, Mildred "Peg" Mowery. He will be missed by his many friends in the Smyrna community.

David was born to David and Agnes Mowery in Lancaster, Pa. He graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School in 1959. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He spent the majority of his career as a truck driver, for H.R. Ewell and Yellow Freight System, accumulating more than 2 million miles of safe freight hauling. Dave was a car enthusiast and train collector his entire life. He enjoyed running his trains or talking about hot rods with anyone who may have stopped by the house or he met at a local store. Any day trip was not complete without a stop at a car lot, hobby shop and cup of coffee.

David was predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Verba M. Mowery (Trew) and Anthony B. Payne (Peg's son). He is survived by his sisters: Regina, Christine (Larry), and Rita, all of Lancaster, Pa. Additionally, he is survived by his children: Stephanie, David Mark (Dori), and Joseph (Lori). Also, Peg's son Doug (Pam). Several grandchildren: Erich, Zachariah, Ethan, Ashley, David Nolan, Andrew & Ryan. Several great grandchildren: Sasha, Sklyar, Harper, Piper, Jameson, Ellison, Brodie, & Reese.

In addition to his friends in Smyrna, David will also be missed by his many lifelong friends in the Lancaster area and extended family across the country. As a friend from Smyrna once said, "The World could use more Dave's in it"
