David Taylor Birney Jr., of Wilmington, passed away on September 18, 2016 at Parkview Nursing Home, Wilmington. He was 69.
He was born in Wilmington, DE on December 18, 1946, the son of Hazel Marie (Walls) Birney and the late David Taylor Birney Sr.
He graduated from Christiana High School in 1965 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1965 where he was injured in Vietnam.
He worked at Henry's Exxon for over 25 years, and retired in 2002.
David was an avid bowler and fisherman. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Newark, DE.
He was predeceased by his Father, David T. Birney; Brother, George M. Birney; two Brothers–in-law, Ed Kobetich and Lars Gamborg-Nielsen; and his dog Lucky.
He is survived by his Mother, Hazel M. Birney, of Newark,DE; his siblings Jane E. Kobetich, of Longford, KS; Mildred E. Gamborg-Nielsen, of Newark, DE John P. Birney (Elizabeth), of Hartly, DE; Susan M. Mills, of Newark, DE; Frank D. Birney (Tracy), and Christian L. Wailes, all of Wilmington, DE; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, & great nephews.
Services and interment with military honors will be held 11:00 AM Thursday September 29 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear, DE.
