Carol A. O'Donnell was born in Xenia, Ohio on July 16, 1943. She was the daughter of Frederick J. Dalton and Judith Marcella Kelble. After her mother's passing she became the surrogate daughter of her mother's sister Eileen and Eileen's husband, Lt. Col. Richard Gant, USAF. She moved to Dover in 1964 and graduated from Wesley College the following year. She worked as a travel agent for several years at Allen Travel before owning and operating her own travel agency in Rehoboth for several years before disability retirement. As an agent Carol was a world traveler having visited all points Europe, most points in Central and Southern Americas, and some Asian countries including Japan and China. In retirement she dedicated herself to visiting and bringing the Holy Eucharist to shut in parishioners and hospital patients by serving over 20 years as a Holy Cross Eucharist Minister. She was also known as the "Rosary Lady" hosting and attending weekly home prayer groups and organizing an annual Rosary Rally through the national Our Lady of Fatima religious group.
She was the beloved wife of James Joseph for the last 40 years, and previously the late Wm Goldsborough. She was the loving mother of Rebecca Ann Gregory of Mentone, Al. and Elizabeth Ann Stewart of Seaford, DE, .and the loving Nanny of Tyler Patrick Hudson (Sebastian, FLA); Caitlyn Brooke Hudson (Harrington, DE.); Megan Brooke Iannantuono (Morgantown, NC): Cody Lee Stewart (Seaford, DE.), Caleb Lee Stewart (Seaford, DE), Leah Faye Johnson (Seaford, DE) and the loving Great-Nanny of Sophia Leigh Knight (Harrington, DE) and Kaylee Anne Davis (Harrington, DE.).
Visitation will be held 6-8 PM Wednesday May 21 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12 PM Thursday May 22 at the Church of the Holy Cross, 631 S. State Street, Dover at 12 PM after which she will be interred at the Cemetery of the Church of the Holy Cross Dover, DE.
