Carleton William Whitney, 83, passed away on November 8th, 2018 at Kent General Hospital in Dover, DE. He was born on March 17th, 1935 in Philadelphia, PA to Theodore and Estelle Davidson Whitney. Carleton is the fourth of 7 children; Mable Troutman Whitney, Dr. Theodore R. Whitney, Jr., Dr. Harold Whitney (deceased), Dr. Edward Whitney (deceased), Wesley Whitney (deceased), and Professor Donald Whitney.
Carleton grew up in Philadelphia, PA and he attended Northeast High School where he used to run track. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1953. After high school he attended Temple University for two years where he majored in Criminal Justice. Afterwards, he joined the Navy in 1956 and served for 8 years. He served in the Korean War. He was given an honorable discharged in 1963.
He began working for Graterford Prison as a prison guard and later, he worked for Byberry Mental Institution as a security guard. Sometime later, another opportunity became available with the School District of Philadelphia for a Police Officer where worked for 33 years and he also worked for a private security company during the same amount of years. He retired in 1998 and received awards for never missing a day and outstanding service to the public and his peers.
Elaine McBride, met Carleton in the summer of 1968. Their courtship became official when Elaine married Carleton in 1985 in Elkton, MD. They were happily married for 33 years.
Carleton and Elaine both became dedicate Jehovah's Witness through water baptism on July 4th 1987 at Buckingham Assembly Hall of Jehovah's Witness in Buckingham, PA. Later, he has served as an accountant for the congregation as well as becoming a Ministerial Servant from 1993 onwards. When Carleton wasn't busy with work or his duties to the congregation, he enjoyed taking lots of photos, taking long drives, and watching old western movies. However, the main thing he really loved the most was spending as much time as possible with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Carleton is survived by his spouse Elaine of Philadelphia, PA; his daughters Roxanne Whitney and Carolyn McBride Francis of Philadelphia, PA; his grandchildren Edward Clinton Hall, Christopher Jordan Hall, and Carleton Johnathan Price; his great-grandchildren Noah Hall and Jonah Hall; and his nieces and nephews; Sharon Troutman, John Whitney, Michael Whitney, Dr. Estelle Whitney, Dr. Kathi Whitney, Dr. Dara Ryan, Onyx Hope Whitney, Elizabeth Whitney (sister in law) Dr. Carol Whitney (sister in law), Keith Whitney, Deborah Whitney, other relatives and a host of spiritual brothers and sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 300 Elm Street, Smyrna, DE 19977 at 1:00pm, November 24th. Following this memorial, the family will be greeting friends and relatives during the repass. Location will be disclosed at that time.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 300 Elm Street, Smyrna, DE 19977.
