Obituary

Betty J. Blanchfield, of Smyrna, passed away on Sunday February 21, 2021 at her home. She was 86.

She was born in Smyrna, the daughter of the late Alfred M. Shane Sr. and Emma Bailey Shane.

She was born and raised into a large farming family. She worked with her husband Jim in the family business, Blanchfield's ARCO/Texaco, doing bookkeeping and payroll for many years.

Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and always enjoyed holidays and special events with her family.

She is survived by three children, Betty (David) Steller, Terry (Bob) Merrill, and Jimmy (Tracy) Blanchfield; five grandchildren, Davey Steller, Crystal Hodge, Chris Merrill, Jordan Hobbs, and Emmalee Burdette; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Donald (Mary) Shane, Douglas (Sandy) Shane, and Larry (Harriett) Shane; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, James A. Blanchfield Jr.; and four siblings, Alfred M. Shane Jr., Melvin F. Shane, Mary Ellen Jenkins, and Emma Jean Johnson.

Family and friends are welcome to attend graveside services at 1:00 PM Friday February 26 at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna. Please follow Covid-19 guidelines for masks and distancing.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Citizens Hose Co., PO Box 97, Smyrna, DE 19977. Please note that the contribution is in memory of Betty Blanchfield.
