Obituary

Andres M. Ortiz, 90, of Dover, Delaware, passed away on Sunday February 22, 2026, in Dover.

He was born September 23, 1935, in San German, Puerto Rico, the youngest of seven children of the late Damaso Ortiz and Susana Melendez Ortiz.

He graduated from NYC Public Schools, Class of 1953 and honorably served in the United States Marine Corps from 07-26-1955 through 10-23-1959. He was stationed at NATTC (Naval Air Technical Training Center), Jacksonville, FL Airman School 12-16-55 through 03-13-56, and NATTC, Memphis, TN Aviation Machinist Mate School 03-15-56 through 05-10-56. After being Honorably Discharged he had a successful career in the Apparel Industry in NYC. He enjoyed traveling the world. He had resided in Puerto Rico, NYC, and for the past 23 years, Dover, DE. Andres was fond of sharing jokes. When asked how he was doing, his response was always "I am wonderful; I am at one with the Universe".

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis M. Ortiz; three children, Andres R. Ortiz (Leslie), Neil M. Ortiz (Jackie), and Jonathan Ortiz; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Grace, Carlos, Gaspar, Nestor, Celinda (Mimi), and Ana.
